Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

This is my new favorite lunch spot on this side of town. Sort of a hole in the way in a strip mall. Their Siam rolls are a nice twist to your typical egg rolls. I really liked the filling and the deep frying was just enough to add some crunch. For protein, they offer scallops, one of my favs. Tried two items - the Pad Woon Sen (this is my standard for comparison vs the Pad Thai). Ok, but a little on the salty side. The highlight was a curry dish with a great combo of scallops and veggies. I need to look up the name of the dish, but this dish will keep me coming back. Overall great lunch place. They have two locations so try the one closest to you.

The worst service by far from any local Thai restaurant in the area. I can't begin to explain the lack of service this place offers. From the moment I walked in to not resolving an issue I had, which made me get up pay for my meal and not get a bite in! Walked in a couple minutes after my cousin had gotten there. The waitress clearly saw us, my nephew and I walk in, and continued to sweep up the rug in between waiting on tables. Didn't walk over to ask if we wanted something to drink. 5 minutes later and only 3 tables seated in the whole place, I walk over and ask if she can come take our order. She walked over angry already since I had to ask her to come to our table and that we were ready. My nephew ordered food with shrimp in it. The problem was the smell. The shrimp had a strong fishy odor which in most cases means it may be spoiled seafood. We talked to our waitress who was already rude from the start. Explained to her it's got a funky fishy scent to it. Her response? "It's shrimp, what did you think it was going to smell like?" He responded to her that he's had it plenty of times but the smell was awful. I don't complain, but I stepped in and asked can it be made with different meat like chicken or steak and if she could smell it to see what we are talking about. She got frustrated and took the plate back to someone in the kitchen who sent her back out to tell us they'll be taking it off the bill. Not without letting us know they're fine print on the back of the menu. It states that food can not be taken off and they are not responsible for refunds. Well hellllllooo there may be a rule to that exception especially if the food you're selling smells foul. My cousin said to her thanks, you satisfied a customer. She responded with what are we supposed to do with the food? My cousin asked her if you're customer is dissatisfied don't you think you did what's best? She became irate, hissed and walked away. As she did she told her co worker to just give us the bill with a sound of psshhh. Pretty much asking us to eat and leave. It took me a second to think it. So I turned and asked her, does the meal she just helped us with compare to the loss of three patrons who come there often? Then she went off on me. So I asked her co worker for a manager. The two girls REFUSED to get the manager. Told me the manager was too busy to come out and help. At that point we paid for the food, which we didn't eat, got up and left. I own many businesses and if I or my managers couldn't step out to resolve an issue then we clearly don't understand customer service or managing a business. Not saying customers are always right. Just saying there is a level of professionalism that has been lost in doing quality customer service. By the way that was my third time eating there in 7 days. Nice job ladies. Won't be back there again.

Hmm, awful food experience I had here when the hubby and I decided to dine in. He got his usual Kow Pad with Chicken and it was decent as always. I tried something new and went for the Curry Fried Rice..WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! My dish arrived with hardly any spice and was SUPER dry. There was not a trace of the red coconut curry signature color, and authentic flavor of spices and coconut milk that is supposed to be coating the rice and giving it that rich curry flavor with just the right amount of spice. NO TRACE!! The rice was an off-white color sparsely laced with veggies. AW-FUL!! I wondered if they gave me the wrong order??

I work two miles away and order from here once a week. Under rated in my book. Food is always fresh and hot. I love the appetizers and my favorite dish is the ND6 pad Thai curry . I recommend checking this place out

Before I write my opinion, I want to say that I'm an adventurous eater. I've eaten dumplings from a cart in Korea and chicken from a road side stand in St. Lucia. So I'm no snob. But, oh my gosh. This meal was gross. Hot and sour soup - luke warm and nothing but starchy filler with no flavor at all. Tea - Not hot (at all) and not fresh. Panang- pre-made thick, bland gravy. My husband's dish was pork and had something in it that looked like a ventricle. It was the nastiest thing I've ever seen. I'm still sick thinking about our lunch today. NEVER AGAIN.

Over the past 7-8 years, Sawasdee has been the go-to place for my friends and I. Even though we have mostly moved away from Michigan, every chance we get, we would still come back to Sawasdee for their great pad thai and good soup. Love: - Fresh rolls: don't get tofu if possible, because it is much better with meat. - Chicken satay: tender and delicious - Pad thai (again, get chicken or shrimp if possible) - Pad see ew - Any of the soups - Good portion size for the price Not so much: - Tofu (appetizer) - Curry dishes, but that's only because I don't care for Thai curry dishes. YMMV - Fried rice was a bit bland. - Out of date decor - Random times to be running out of fresh rolls or Thai ice tea. Overall it's a solid place that gets you satisfied without breaking a bank. We keep coming back to help to keep them around for many more years to come.

I have only been here once so I can't comment on consistency, but my meal was delicious. The waitress we had was just OK. She wasn't rude but it would've been nice for her to show a little bit of personality. The location is a bit of a drive for me but I will be back.

My favorite Thai place is Sy Thai in Birmingham, but Sawasdee comes pretty close to that. Went here for dinner tonight with a friend, I have been in the past but not recently. Dinner entree with tofu, chicken, beef, or other is $9 which is very reasonable, I think Sy Thai is like $11-11.50. You also get shrimp chips with your meal. I had #119, I believe, a stir fry with chicken, carrots, mushrooms, and broccoli, in a brown sauce. Not what I usually get but it was delicious. Service is always friendly and prompt and I like that they leave the water pitcher at the table for you, as I tend to drink a lot of water. I would visit Sawasdee Thai again when I'm in the area.

Save your time & money!!! Food varies from time to time. Ordered same dish as I normally get and it tastes/looked nothing like it was suppose to. Staff said if I don't like it I don't have to come back. Never again! This is just unbelievable!!
(1)Tyler R.
Always delicious, I love the panang w tofu medium spice. It's awesome that they offer 10% off the bill when you pay cash for carry out!!
(5)Crystal L.
A good local staple to fall back on when you need somewhere to eat. It is hard to be disappointed here in my opinion. The vegetarian curries with tofu and fried rices are very good. When you go at dinner you are basically paying for two meals as it is a ton of food. Fortunately it keeps and reheats well. I wish the hot and sour soup was available at dinner as it is so much more amazing then puffy shrimp chips in my vegetarian-biased opinion :)

Someone said this place looks like a dump? It doesnt at all... I don't know where their random one star came from, but peoples good reviews will for sure have me stop in again. The place looked nice inside, clean. Unfortunately, don't show up even 30 minutes before closing, because they'll tell you they're closed, even for take out. I dont like that, make your hours different then. However, I did ask for chips, the girl was very nice and said she could do that, and gave them to me for free, im guessing she felt bad about the hours thing (though I didnt really complain to her) so cant wait to show up and see how their food tastes. The chips were amazing, not one burnt or undercooked. Made me happy :).

Its my go-to place for Thai food. I like almost everything on the menu. I usually have one of the fried rice dishes or the curries. They never fail me. Also, the service is very very fast - the food's on the table in a matter of minutes - pipping hot and fresh. I am a vegetarian and there's plenty to choose from. The place is not big on interiors and the servers are not particularly interested in pampering you - its business us usual. But hey, the food is good and that's all I care about.

So many Thai restaurants in this area, I picked this one based on a few good reviews. Thai iced coffee is my favorite drink, probably has 1000 calories, but it's amazing and theirs was especially good. The next thing I look for at a Thai place is their duck. I had the duck in curry sauce (C3) and it was very good. Unless you are eating at a massive Chinese BBQ place that serves dozens of ducks a day, you are probably getting frozen duck - which I believe was the case there, but it was tasty and tender, and the curry was very good. Our server was pretty uninterested in us, but an older woman that perhaps owned the place was very pleasant and offered us her recipe for the iced coffee! Prices and food were good, even on a snowy Thursday night right before close, check them out!

I was a loyal customer - Spent around $50 a week here. Went in to get food without fish sauce, they NO LONGER PREPARE WITHOUT FISH SAUCE EVEN IF REQUESTED. I was going to get food catered and now will not based on the principle that they WERE EXTREMELY RUDE. Cannot believe it - Will never be going back.

Random find in a strip mall was A+ Nice vegetarian selection, questions answered patiently and in detail. Attentive service fresh ingredients and zingy taste. Veggie rolls with rice noodles instead of the usual rice paper - our waitress apologized fir them, but i liked them better than average. And a lot of protein choices including veg friendly. This place deserves a bigger crowd, locals. Go there and enjoy the food..
(4)Miike G.
Are you kidding me!!!! These reviews are for sure juiced! This place does not use real chicken instead plastic rubbery parts molded into clear plastic looking pieces of chicken. I think they call that pressed chicken. The inside is your traditional dumpy dirty kind of place. I am soooo pissed I purchased pad Thai with rubber chicken. Yelp has failed me :(
(1)Alex T.
Very good thai place, and very inexpensive. I had the cashew chicken and it was delicious. The portion was large, so the rest will be lunch tomorrow. Service was fast and polite. I'm not sure it's worth the 8-mile drive that I took today with my family, but if you live closer, definitely give it a try.
(4)Anna S.
Located on a strip mall, doesn't look like much in terms of interior, but their food is good. Crab Ragoons are yummy as well as the traditional pad Thai. Service can be a hit or miss, they only have one waitress... I'm guessing her family owns this place? If they are busy, expect to be rushed when ordering.
(4)Mande B.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant. I rate it a 5 based on my obsession with their food - not based on much else. This isn't an upscale restaurant, but the service is fine, take-out orders are completed quickly and the drinks are refilled promptly. The portions are huge and the dishes are quite affordable. I've been on a kick recently where I've ordered the pad ped with tofu and its so amazing. The hubs orders the beef with rice noodles and he's all about that particular dish. We've been many times and will continue to go. Love this place!

me and my wife tried this place upon seeing good reviews here. was disappointed to say the least. waitress was rude. my wife ask for some condiment for the appetizer, her response? i can bring it but that's just weird. ordered sweet&sour fish and it was undercooked yuck. the only thing they got going here is the fried rice which is ok but not great. go somewhere else don't waste your time and money here.

I have been getting carry out from this place, and they are so good. So I start coming here for lunch as well. Love their hot and sour soup, clear both instead of the thick one. Spicy enough and not too hot. Then the Pad Thai, it is so yummy. It isn't watery, the noodle is a little moist, and not too dry. We also order the red curry, which is good as well. I have the medium hot. It is s bit spicy, but I can manage it. It is just nice to have spicy food during the cold weather.

Tastefully Bitter. Have you been at predicament while reviewing where the the food is reasonably tasteful but the over all taste of the visit, "Bitter" ? That is Sawasdee. Honestly speaking the food is not bad at all, actually tastes good but the terrible service and attitude will drive down even an accommodating customer to the edge and give bad reviews:) I guess they don't value and respect a customer who walks through their door. Out of the 6 times I have visited there was 1 time a very polite person who waited, friendly and did the job how it was supposed to be done. But sadly enough I don't see her there anymore. The ones there now will only earn a frown from you :) I will not visit there again. I probably will try a different Thai restaurant close by like Spicy Bangkok or Bangkok Cuisine. I'd rather go to a place that provides both good food and good customer focus ! As a food connoisseur I go to a restaurant for an experience and not just fill my belly. I rate food based of the 3 criteria... Taste - Good Technique - Average Presentation - Average Ambiance - Average minus Service - Between Worse and Bad :)
(2)Ken K.
When you order a meat dish vegetarian style and ask for onions it will cost you an extra buck. What kind of meat are they using that is cheaper than a teaspoon of onions?
(2)Monique D.
Best Thai Food that we have had anywhere! Top Green Curry - #104 with Beef!
(5)Jenni L.
There's at least three reasons to go to Sawasdee: the pad thai curry (with tofu, no egg, no shrimp, medium spice), the vegetable curry (with tofu, medium spice), and the cottage fries curry (with tofu, medium spice). If you need more reasons: the food is good, the prices are nice, and the service is friendly and fast. I go about once a week since it's a local restaurant and appears to be family-owned and I like to support places like that. It has vegan and vegetarian options as well as lots of things for the omnivores (including entrees associated with American-Chinese food, like boneless almond chicken, etc.), so Sawasdee is a great choice if you have a diverse group of people to please. In fact, the menu has probably over a hundred options, so if you can't find something you like, you're not trying. I'm not usually one for appetizers but I have had the tofu tod, spring rolls, and cabbage rolls before and they all tasted great. Sawasdee is a nice place to take a small group. I've even been in the restaurant twice when people were holding birthday parties and the service never lagged despite the large groups. Once, the birthday person even came around to the other tables and passed out slices of cake to all of the other patrons in the restaurant. I even went on Valentine's Day in an odd-numbered group, and the day before Thanksgiving as well, and both times I still had a quick, excellent, and well-priced meal. The waitresses are always helpful and attentive. They offer to take photos for the birthday parties, bring boxes at just the right moment, and will even joke around with you if you're there regularly. (I almost always get one of the three dishes listed above, so one waitress sometimes teases that I don't even need the menu.) When you're done with your food, you're typically served a fortune cookie for each person at the table along with the bill. This is always the case during the dinner hours, but sometimes varies at lunch. So, if you're really in need of a fortune, be sure to go later. Not too late though, a sign on the door alerts customers to the fact that you cannot order after 9:30 pm, even though it doesn't close until 10. This gives the cooks a chance to make your meal and you some time to eat it. Likewise, if it makes or breaks your visit, the shrimp chips are always served (free) at dinner, so if that's what you want, kindly ignore the reviewer who says otherwise and schedule your visit for the evening instead of at lunch-time. Frequently, the lunch-time meals have complimentary soup (usually your choice of two options - hot and sour is usually one of them) served with them instead. I also reviewed Sawasdee here: veginmetrod.blogspot.com… Overall, I highly recommend Sawasdee.

I usually like thai food and been through good ones and bad ones, and i would say that this is one of the better one i have tried. Although their lunch time ends rather early, they asked me if i still wanted to get lunch. The atmosphere is nice, large portions (although i think i ended up getting dinner) and inexpensive (again, if that was dinner price then it wasn't expensive)
(4)Christopher M.
Went here for lunch and ordered what I usually get at Thai restaurants - gang keaw warn. It was very good and would rank it up towards the top. My wife got the tofu pad thai but she didn't care for it a whole lot - too much egg for her. I tried it and thought it was a bit greasy but I'm not a huge fan of pad thai anyways. Very good lunch value and they give a 10% discount if you pay via cash.
(4)Gene G.
Food is great. I love Thai food and they have some of the best. Service staff could be friendlier at times. The restaurant itself is clean and large and nicely decorated but a bit too dimly lit. Still I think they deserve 4 stars for food alone. Any entree with curry or coconut sauces, eggplant and bell pepper is fantastic. Pad Thai is also very good. Medium spice is quite spicy but is always consistent unlike at some other Thai places where a "medium" order can range anywhere from mild to nuclear.
(4)Jill T.
Have been going here for years. Food is amazing. Have dined in a couple of times, but usually order carry out. Best thai in this area. Would highly recommend!!!
(5)Lawrence R.
Had the Pad Gui - Chicken - Medium. Was delicious! Very quick, Had our food within 10 minutes of ordering. Quiet atmosphere
(5)Ashley H.
The food is mediocre at best. I find myself ordering take out from here since it's the only close thai restaurant in the area. After a few very disappointing orders, I've decided not to eat at Sawasdee again. If you're looking for good thai food DO NOT dine here!
(2)Sue W.
Awesome food and it's very fresh. Food came fast!
(5)Stephen S.
Since I just reviewed Siam Spicey in Novi, and said I prefer Sawasadee, I guess I should give a review here. Everything we've ever ordered here has been great without exception. I love their appetizer platter with spring rolls, crab rangoon, chicken satay, and postickers. Their tum yum soup and kow pad prik are great, and medium hot is actually pretty hot. I love the quirky girls that work here too - fun attitudes!
(5)Olivia F.
I find that the only things I like are the Orange Chicken and Pad Thai. The Pad Thai is especially exceptional. Oh! And the Spring Rolls are yummy as well. Though I recommend eating at the restaurant, not takeout. Not because of the atmosphere, but because the food tastes best hot. Don't be surprised to find the restaurant empty, it's good, but the amount of business that strip mall gets is pitiful. And, due to its lack of business, it closes before 10 occasionally (about 9:45 or a little earlier). Also, on weekdays two entrees are $15. The verdict: a good place to get Pad Thai for little cost, but not for much else.
(3)Rodney H.
I have not yet fully resolved whether Thai,Japanese or Indian food is my favorite & usually after eating good examples of wither cuisine my opinion will change, that did not happen after eating here. Very vanilla Thai food nothing terrible but no stand outs either, The place was almost empty & yet the service was very lax.I had Tom Yan Gong which was just bland comparable to packet soups, no flavor at all. I followed this with the Pad Thai which was ok but still a little bland.
(2)ryan k.
Not the greatest Thai offerings around but certainly the best in my immediate area. If it's between Sawasdee and Siam Spicy Novi it's always this place hands down. Pad Se Ew is great, curries are good, and they have a fried red snapper dish that is outstanding. I've never dined in so I have no experience with service, but carry out is always smooth and correct. Prices are as you would expect.
(4)sarah j.
Wish I could give 3.5 stars, mostly since shrimp chips are not served free when you dine in (at lunchtime). But the curry pad thai makes up for that missing half star. Since I tried it, I haven't been able to order anything else here. It's just too good to pass up. Carryout dinner portions will last a couple meals easily.
(4)Vlad G.
Best Thai place that I've been to. Good service, amazing price, great food.
(5)Laura K.
This is a great gem recommended by my friend who does muay thai. It's a bit hidden in Walled Lake in a strip mall across from a Meijer, but the food was excellent, and the prices were great. We will definitely be going back!
(4)Nivedita P.
i frequent this place alot..i luv spicy food and this place can address my cravings..i luv the tofu tom yum soup.for starters i always order the shrimp fresh roll, chicken satay and tofu todd..i luv them all..they are tasty.i hardly ever order any main course..but i've tried the thai fried rice and fried catfish in red curry sauce..i liked them 2.i go there for the soup and starters only.
(4)Adrien C.
My boyfriend and I popped in there when we got to Sharaku too late for lunch. Figured what the hey, and we were HUNGRY! The food was acceptable; we have had better. But the reason for my one-star report is a small but infuriating item. My boyfriend and I split a Siam roll and an order of Pad Thai. I like mild, he likes medium heat. There was no chili sauce of any kind on the table so we asked for some, which the server brought in a little dish. What Thai place doesn't have a bottle of Sriracha on the table? Hmm? When the bill arrived, she had charged us a dollar for that little dish of hot sauce. Wha?? That is like charging for a squirt of ketchup in a hamburger joint! Just Crazy!!! That really ticked us off. Factor in that the food was only ok, we will not be back.
(1)Jay A.
I was on my way to Novi and I was hungry. So I checked my GPS for Thai restaurants around the area. First I stepped in it was packed with customers. I thought this must be a good Thai restaurant. Unfortunately. it's not that good. I ordered Pad See Ew. It was alright but could have been better. I don't think the owner and staffs are Thai BTW. This place is like Thai-Chinese combo. And I would drive all the way to Novi for tastier thai food.
